In '84 we left the shores of England for to chance
With youth and fervour on our side we headed south to France

And guided by the starry sky, the plain trees made the roads
The moon shone bright on our first night as we travelled to Bordeaux

In Pauillac town the rain poured down as we searched for les vendanges
We played the streets to make ends meet, c'est mieux que faire la manche

A multi-national gathering descended sur la place
We found ourselves with new world friends et beaucoup bière d'alsace

And the hawk moth flies in the sun
When the flowers of summer have gone

The days were long, the sunbeams strong, the vine trees small and tough
We drank for fun then up at dawn, we had la gueule de bois

Our work was done so we journeyed on up north to La Rochelle
With Jimmy the hat and the Dublin chat, a busking we would sell

And the hawk moth flies in the sun
When the flowers of summer have gone

And the hawk moth flies in the sun
When the flowers of summer have gone
